As detailed in reference paper, the statistics were computed on the backscattering coefficients (sig0) presnt in the altimetry missions GDR for OCEAN (Brown, 1977; Rodriguez 1988), OCOG/ICE-1/ICE (Wingham et al., 1986) and ICE-2 (Legrésy & Rémy, 1997) retracking algorithms, peakiness from OCOG/ICE-1/ICE and on the two waveform parameters given by ICE-2 retracker : leading edge width (lew) and trailing edge slope (tes).

 

The Dataset of those parameters is given for several multi-frequencies (S, C, Ku and Ka) and global-scale over land for the following LRM radar altimetry missions: ERS-2, Jason-1, ENVISAT, Jason-2 and SARAL.

The datafiles are organized as normpass structure. The norm_index dimension is the number of the cell along of the altimetric pass and its coordinates are given by the variables lon and lat. As function of the temporal statistics, the parameter variable has one or two others dimensions : month_index and year_index. Here below are detailed each variable for each mission.

CTOH data use policy

 

The CTOH (Centre de Topographie des Océans et de l'Hydrosphère) is a French National Observation Service, supported by INSU (Institut National des Sciences de l'Univers). Its role is to assist scientific users and the different space agencies in the development of new altimetric applications. To this end, the CTOH provides access to their frequently updated altimetric data bases, including Topex-Poseidon, Jason-1, Jason-2, Jason-3, GFO, ERS-2, ENVISAT, and Saral data, with improved corrections, and to the altimetric products developed by the CTOH.

CTOH products are provided free of charge under the condition that they are exclusively used for scientific studies and experiments. This implies that:

    - Copying the CTOH Products for use by third parties is strictly forbidden.
    - Granting access to the CTOH Products for use by third parties is strictly forbidden.
    - Commercial use of the CTOH products, or products directly derived from them, is strictly forbidden.

The CTOH product may evolve over time.  We also ask that the users communicate to us any problems they find with the data products.

Finally, the data and products are for research purposes. The CTOH cannot be held for responsible for the scientific utilisation of the data.

This dataset and it can be used freely for any scientific applications provided that the DOI is cited and  one or more of the papers listed above are cited (please choose the most relevant in respect to your application) and  CTOH is acknowledged.
